Solitude cancelled

khiemtranIt appears my Solitude V3 noise cancelling headphones have not recovered from emergency surgery. OTOH, I got to try some Bose QC2s at work yesterday, and they're looking like a much more reasonable option than they appeared last time. The sound was clearly better than the Solitude's (especially in terms of the lack of background hiss) and they were more comfortable to boot.
Many of the other small advantages that the Solitude claimed now appear to be not so important after all. One advantage that the Solitude had was that it can still function as a normal headset even after the batteries run out. As it happens though, I've never actually runout of batteries midflight, and I always carry spares anyway.
The biggest disadvantage of the Bose, of course, is the price. They're outrageously priced here at retail, but the official US price is down to merely mildly offensive, and Qantas is also offering them for frequent flyer points.
