I've been listening to some Grumiaux/Hajdu recordings of French violin sonatas at work lately. I've had them for a while, as part of an Original Masters box set, but I've only recently got around to listening to them in detail.

They make quite pleasing background music for work - not distracting enough that they break my concentration, yet complex enough to please the brain whenever it pauses to consider them. The Ravel, with it's jazzy, bluesy feel (as seen by a French classical composer) is probably my favourite, followed by the Fauré No. 1 and the Debussy. Of course, anything played by Arthur Grumiaux seems to end up automatically meeting my criteria for beautiful sooner or later.

They're also quite good music for de-stressing in the evenings too - something I've had to do a bit of lately. It's been good to get some "couch time" after Liem's gone to bed, to sit and relax for a while and listen to music. Work has been busy lately, and most of the household has been sick. At least it's the weekend now.
