Boy meets Girl. Boy or Girl falls in love with the other, but circumstances keep them apart. One or both parties is then offered and accepts a fatal Contract that will enable them to be together. The Contract turns out to be flawed in a way that wasn't obvious to the Signee due to A) lack of experience and B) they were in love at the time and their brains were elsewhere.

Discuss.

ETA: I should point out that this is fiction.

Is divorce an option?

Traditionally, no. Although in a modern story possibly it would be. Generally the Contract is written so that at least the Signee is doomed to their fate after signing and the Other has a last minute conversion and dooms themselves along with them.

(This was inspired specifically by the plot of Rusalka, but the same model has been used at least a million times over...)
