Crossing the road
Apr. 27th, 2008 02:15 pmOne of the surprising things about Paris, or at least the heavily touristed areas where I happened to pass through, was that the traffic lights seemed to be heavily biased to favour pedestrians. The crossing lights would go off at regular intervals, there was no need to press any buttons, and there was a generous amount of time to cross the road. All of this may walking around a lot more pleasant and no doubt also made driving a bit more irritating.
There were, of course, lost of drivers who would run red lights on empty crossing and even a few who did their best to steal the right of way on not-so-empty crossings by charging in at high speed, to which I merely laughed in their faces. I've crossed the road in Saigon, you amateurs.
