Nigel Kennedy Revisited
Mar. 19th, 2008 05:25 pmI managed to find the Polish Chamber Orchestra recordings of the Beethoven and Mozart #4 on the weekend. The cadenzas on the Mozart #4 weren't as good as the ones he'd played in Sydney, but that's the beauty of live performance. The first cadenza in particular was a little disappointing when I first heard the version on CD. The Sydney version started with a solo introduction which established a nice air of stillness before the bass accompaniment kicked in, the PCO version is accompanied right from the start. The Sydney version also builds a bit longer and more satisfyingly into the final cadence.
After a few listens though, the CD version is starting to grow on me.
