There's a hole in my WIR...
Jul. 8th, 2005 11:01 pmI've just noticed something important missing in my WIR. There's a turning point somewhere between Phase II and Phase III where one of the major characters has a crisis of confidence. The sacrifice of one goal for another is a recurring theme in the novel, and this is the point where this character starts to question whether he's been doing the right thing in pursuing his dream at the risk of his loved ones. Or at least, this is where he should be questioning it. In the book, there's nothing there, just a sudden change. There's something missing here. It's not a scene showing what he's thinking (he's not the viewpoint character anyway, and there's another character who goes through a crisis of faith told mostly off-stage), it's a scene showing his concern. The viewpoint character doesn't have to understand what is going on, he just has to realise that something is up. All the pieces should already be there to clue the reader in to what is going on. All of a sudden, it looks like this scene was planned right from the beginning...
